I do believe I have the best job in the world. Up until today, I truly believed that. Of course, that was before I had a chance to meet Dr. Jorge de Diego, or “Doc D.” You know, there is nothing better than getting to work for your alma mater (college) and connecting with alumni. What makes m job so special is not only getting to know the current students, who will be the leaders of tomorrow, but it is also special getting to know the alumni of the University of Oklahoma. While I spend most of my days surrounded by Sooner fans, I didn’t expect to find such a strong Sooner family in South Florida.

The Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and I came to Miami earlier in the week on our way to a conference, to meet with our alumni. During each visit we had with our alumni, everyone mentioned Doc D. “You know, Doc D?” they would ask. I was sorry to admit that I didn’t know him. I believe I had heard of him, but never had a chance to meet him. I tried to reach him by e-mail, I must be especially lucky because he received my e-mail and responded promptly that he would make time the following day to meet with a Sooner.

Screen shot 2015-02-18 at 6.22.50 AMWhat a warm welcome we received when we visited both of his practices and had an opportunity to also meet Dr. Raul Gonzalez, who is helping us recruit students to come to the University of Oklahoma. Everywhere we went, Doc received hugs and kisses from neighbors, friends, patients and others. I thought we were walking around the city of Doral with the Mayor, he is so popular! He is a kind and generous friend to the University of Oklahoma. who shares his time and his treasure to help send students from South Florida to the University of Oklahoma. I now believe he has the best job in the world as Doral’s Ambassador to OU.

Boomer Sooner!
