A space dedicated to art and culture in Doral.

The ground floor of the new Doral Government Center will soon be an area dedicated to the development and promotion of cultural arts, in which several artistic and cultural organizations will be able to use of the space given freely to organize activities and social events for the enjoyment of the community.
In the interest of encouraging cultural activities, the city decided to appoint a person who will have the responsibility of organizing monthly workshops for all the nonprofit organizations of Doral.
The workshop will teach to these organizations how to formally request a grant, the various grants available for them and how to obtain them.
Surprisingly many organizations visit the Cultural Committee of Doral looking for monetary contributions without knowing the proper way to submit their requests.
This workshop will help not only to improve the submission of their requests but it will also aim organizations to apply for the many grants that can be obtained.
“City of Doral Cultural Affairs Committee approves only around $30,000, in grants for organizations yet, the chances of getting more grants outside are unlimited,” said Councilwoman Bettina Rodriguez, who proposed to motion to promote the arts and culture within the community.
On the City of Doral website it will be published a bulletin with all artistic activities and cultural events to take place in the city in order to keep all residents inform and promote their participation.
“It’s a way the city has to easily spread the information and generates publicity for these organizations at the same time,” said Rodriguez.
At the same time the city council is considering the possibility of building a cultural center for the community, which could be located in the Doral Design District.
“For that some land is being explored already and on the February council meeting we will be presenting all these options in order to move forward, Rodriguez said.
If this initiative moves forward, the cultural center will be expected to have a theater, a gallery, a multipurpose room, a space dedicated to music and everything related to the art and culture that a center needs.
“This is one of the things that through my work as councilwoman I am trying to make it happen,” said Rodriguez. “We need a cultural center in the city because there is no place where we can gather together.”
If the construction of the center becomes a reality, Rodriguez will like it to be a public partnership between government, private businesses and no governmental organizations.
For preservation of the facilities, Rodriguez suggests that one way to pay for the center’s maintenance could be through grants given from public and private organizations, or by designating a percentage of the money raised at shows and events to keep the center.
However, these ideas are only proposals on the table at this time.
“I can not make decisions until it is approved by the council,” said Rodriguez. “The government should always work with the private businesses as we have seen better results when this happens,” he said.
Un espacio dedicado al arte y la cultura en el Doral

La planta baja del nuevo Government Center de la ciudad del Doral será próximamente un área destinada para el desarrollo y promoción de las artes culturales, en la cuál distintas organizaciones artístico-culturales podrán hacer libre uso del espacio otorgado a fin de organizar actividades de este ámbito para el disfrute de la comunidad.
En pro de incentivar la realización de actividades culturales, la ciudad a decidido designar una persona que tendrá como responsabilidad la organización de un “workshop” o taller mensual para todas las organizaciones sin fines de lucro de Doral.
Este taller tendrá como fin enseñarles a estas organizaciones, cuales son los diferentes “grants” o donaciones disponibles, que conforma una donación y como realizar una carta de petición para obtener formalmente contribuciones.
Sorprendentemente muchas organizaciones se dirigen al Comité Cultural del Doral en busca de contribuciones monetarias sin saber cuál es la manera apropiada de presentar sus peticiones.
Este taller busca ayudarlos no solo a mejorar la formulación de peticiones sino también a aplicar para los diversas contribuciones que se pueden obtener.
“Através del Comité Cultural de Doral lo máximo que se puede otorgar [para donaciones] son alrededor de 30 mil dólares, pero las posibilidades de obtener mas contribuciones afuera son ilimitadas,” dijo la concejal Bettina Rodríguez, quién propuso ante en Concejo de Doral la moción para promover las artes y la cultura en la comunidad.
En el página Web de la ciudad se publicará una cartelera con todas las actividades y eventos artístico-culturales que se estará realizando en la ciudad a fin de mantener informados a todos residentes y promover su convocatoria.
“Es una manera de propagar la información y generar a su vez, publicidad para estas organizaciones,” dijo Rodríguez.
Al mismo tiempo el Concejo está contemplando la posibilidad de hacer un Centro Cultural en la ciudad el cuál podría estar ubicado en el Design District del Doral.
“Para eso se estan explorando ya algunas tierras y para la reunión de febrero se presentarán todas las opciones par poder seguir adelante con esta iniciativa,” dijo Rodríguez.
De llegarse a construir este centro cultural constaría con un teatro, una galería, un salón multiuso, un espacio dedicado a la música así como todo lo referente al arte y cultura que un centro necesita tener.
“Ésta es una de las cosas que através de mi gestión estoy tratando hacer realidad,” dijo la concejal.
“Hace falta un centro de arte y cultura en la ciudad porque no hay un lugar donde poder congregarnos,” agregó.
De llegarse a concretar la iniciativa Rodríguez espera fuese mediante una alianza pública entre el gobierno, la empresa privada y organizaciones no gubernamentales.
En cuanto al mantenimiento de las instalaciones, Rodríguez sugiere que una forma de costear el centro pudiera ser mediante donaciones de diferentes organizaciones tanto publicas como privadas o destinando un porcentaje del dinero recaudado en eventos y espectáculos para mantener el centro. Sin embargo, estas ideas son solo propuestas sobre la mesa.
“Yo no puedo tomar decisiones hasta que no esto no sea aprobado por el Concejo,” dijo Rodríguez.
“El gobierno siempre debe de trabajar con la empresa privada ya que se han visto mejores resultados cuando esto sucede,” agregó.
