2015 has been a very successful year for Anais Perez, a 17 year old senior at Doral Performing Arts & Entertainment Academy. Her amazing talent for visual arts has been recently recognized by prestigious national wide organizations such as the National YoungArts Foundation and Scholastics.
Anais was named 2015 winner of the National YoungArts Talent Search, giving her the opportunity to be one of the 700 emerging artists (ages 15-18) nationally selected from 11,000 applications and who were recognized for their outstanding efforts in disciplines such as cinematic arts, dance, voice, music, theater, photography, visual arts, and writing. From that group, only 25 visual artist students were chosen as finalist to participate in a 7-day all-expenses paid trip to the Marriot Hotel in Biscayne Bay, in order to take master classes led by highly-recognized and successful teachers in those fields.
This was certainly a once in a lifetime opportunity for Anais to take her talent to the next level, as she said: “What YoungArts did for me was that it presented a life experience unparalleled to anything I had ever previously encountered. It allowed me to network with so many like-minded individuals that take their craft seriously. Most of all this organization gave me the much-needed confidence to push my artistry forward. They made me understand wholeheartedly that a career in the arts is above all else a necessary facet of the society we live in. Being amongst such a large group of people who cared so much about their craft was a magical experience, and being able to get to know them as friends was probably the best part.”
Anais’s artistic style was so impressive that even some experienced artists participating in the event were interested in purchasing her pieces. Her superior achievement in the visual arts as well as her academic accomplishments were also awarded with the “Creative Vision Award Scholarship”, which will allow Anais to receive a $62,000 scholarship from MICA (The Maryland Institute College of Art) where she will continue her studies after receiving her high school diploma.
Most recently, Anais was a National Finalist and Silver Medal winner for the Scholastics Arts and Writing Award on her art work: ‘Understanding the World: Understanding Myself’. If she is chosen from a lottery, she will have the opportunity to attend the ceremony at Carnegie Hall in New York this year.
Even though creating was something that came naturally to her since she was very little, this kind of success is only possible when talents like this are enriched and well directed in all aspects, and when educators give more than just the academic guidance required. Teachers at Doral Academy are really committed to making this happen and they take extra steps to make sure their students do well and prepare them for the future.
“I knew Anais was special since the very first moment I saw her, I knew she was going to be big, so I told her to stay focused, chose the right friends and give her best,” said Mrs. Aguilera.
“Our team of teachers is very well-balance. Our background is very versatile, not only in the art field but also workwise. We make sure our students understand they also need to put forth maximum effort in their core subjects, not only in their art part. We also help them plan for their future by guiding them about choosing the career path that will allow them to follow their passion and be successful, but also by being able to support themselves. We talk about second majors, work opportunities, etc.” said Ms. Alvarez.
The Performing Arts & Entertainment Program at Doral Academy has also been very important for Anais to be surrounded by people her age who share the same interest in the arts. “Where other people play sports in their free time, I’m always planning for future art pieces or working on projects with friends. I really am incredibly lucky to be so close to such likeminded people my age who have the same intense interest in the arts.”
Anais thanks her parents for allowing and encouraging her to follow her passion and the path that would provide her with the most happiness. She is also grateful to her Doral Academy art teachers Mrs. Aguilera, Ms. Alvarez, and Mr. Cabral for creating what she calls “a healthy and diverse artistic environment” in which she feels free and supported to fully explore her artistry. Finally, she also took a moment to recognize the love, and care of her art teachers Antonietta Dorta and Alvaro Huelva, who taught her since she was 9 years old. As she said, “Without the dedication that these amazing people have provided for me I honestly do not know where I would be today.”
While waiting for what the future brings to her, Anais spends her free time with art related activities, searching for new artists or watching documentaries, hanging out with friends, playing guitar and cooking. She advises other young people interested in art to maintain strong dedication, discover what they really are as artists, and challenging themselves academically, getting good grades which will make “the walk to college a whole lot easier.”
It is certain that Anais will succeed in her endeavors and most importantly will be happy with what she does as she concludes: “Reaching success or not I above all else pictured myself making art and being happy with what it is that I am able to create.”

Estudiante en Doral Performing Arts & Entertainment Academy

2015 ha sido un año muy exitoso para Anais Pérez, una joven de 17 años de edad y estudiante del último año de secundaria en la escuela de Arte y Entretenimiento de Doral Academy. Su increíble talento para las artes visuales ha sido reconocido recientemente por organizaciones de amplio prestigio a nivel nacional como la Fundación YoungArts y Scholastics.
Anais fue nombrada ganadora del National YoungArts Talent Search 2015, dándole la oportunidad de ser una de los 700 artistas emergentes a nivel nacional (en edades entre 15 y 18 años) seleccionados de 11.000 aplicaciones y que fueron reconocidos por sus sobresalientes resultados en disciplinas como artes cinematográficas, danza, voz, música, teatro, fotografía, artes visuales y escritura. De ese grupo, sólo 25 estudiantes de artes visuales fueron elegidos como finalistas para participar en un programa de 7 días con todos los gastos pagos en el Hotel Marriott en la Biscayne Bay, a fin de tomar clases especializadas dirigidas por exitosos profesores altamente reconocidos en esos campos.
Esta fue sin duda una oportunidad única para Anais de elevar su talento a un nivel superior, como ella misma comenta: “Esta semana con YoungArts fue una experiencia totalmente distinta a lo que había vivido alguna vez. Me permitió relacionarme con muchas personas de ideas afines quienes toman su oficio muy en serio. Por encima de todo, esta organización me dio la confianza necesaria para continuar desarrollando mi arte. Ellos me hicieron entender de todo corazón que una carrera en las artes es una faceta necesaria de la sociedad en que vivimos. Estar entre tal grupo de personas que se preocupaban tanto por su oficio fue una experiencia mágica y llegar a conocerlos como amigos fue probablemente la mejor parte”.
El estilo artístico de Anais fue tan impresionante que incluso algunos artistas experimentados que participaron en el evento estaban interesados ??en comprar sus piezas. Su sobresaliente logro en las artes visuales, así como sus resultados académicos también fueron galardonados con el “Premio a la Visión Creativa”, que permitirá a Anais recibir una beca de $62,000 para asistir a MICA (Maryland Institute College of Art) donde continuará sus estudios superiores una vez obtenido su diploma de secundaria.
Más recientemente, Anais quedo finalista a nivel nacional y ganó Medalla de Plata en los Premios de Arte y Escritura de Scholastics por su obra de arte: ‘Comprender el mundo: Comprensión de sí mismo’. Si ella queda seleccionada en la lotería, tendrá la oportunidad de asistir a la ceremonia de premiación en el Carnegie Hall de Nueva York este año.
A pesar que ser creativa fue algo natural para ella desde pequeña, este tipo de éxito sólo es posible cuando talentos como este se enriquecen y se dirigen de forma integral, con el apoyo y motivación de educadores dispuestos a aportar más que la orientación académica requerida. Los maestros en Doral Academy están realmente comprometidos con hacer que esto suceda y se aseguran que sus estudiantes obtengan lo mejor posible y se preparen para el futuro.
“Sabía que Anais era especial desde el primer momento que la vi. Supe que llegaría lejos, así que le dije que se mantuviera concentrada en su meta, escogiera amigos adecuados y diera siempre lo mejor”, dijo la Mrs. Aguilera.
“Nuestro equipo de profesores está muy bien equilibrado. Nuestra trayectoria es muy versátil, no sólo en el campo del arte, sino también en el área de trabajo. Nos aseguramos que nuestros estudiantes entiendan que tienen que poner el máximo esfuerzo en sus materias básicas, no sólo en la parte artística. Les ayudamos a planificar su futuro guiándolos sobre la elección de la carrera que les permita, no solo seguir su pasión y tener éxito, sino también ser capaz de mantenerse a sí mismos. Hablamos de obtener más de un diploma, oportunidades de trabajo, etc.”, dijo Mrs. Alvarez.
El programa de Artes Escénicas y Entretenimiento de Doral Academy también ha permitido que Anais se rodee de compañeros que comparten su mismo interés por las artes. “Cuando otros jóvenes está jugando algún deporte en su tiempo libre, yo estoy planeando mis futuras obras de arte o trabajando en proyectos con amigos. Me siento increíblemente afortunada de estar tan cerca de personas de mi edad con ideas afines, que sienten la misma pasión por las artes”.
Anais agradece a sus padres por animarla y apoyarla a seguir el camino que le proporciona mayor felicidad, las artes. También siente agradecimiento por profesores de arte en Doral Academy Mrs. Aguilera, Mrs. Álvarez, y Mr. Cabral por crear lo que ella llama “un ambiente artístico sano y diverso” en la que se siente libre y apoyada a explorar a fondo su arte. Por último, se tomó un momento para reconocer el amor y la atención de sus profesores de arte Antonietta Dorta y Álvaro Huelva, quienes le enseñaron desde que tenía 9 años de edad. Como ella dijo: “Sin la dedicación que estas personas increíbles en mi vida, sinceramente, no sé dónde estaría hoy en día.”
Mientras espera con ansias su futuro, Anais pasa su tiempo libre en actividades relacionadas con arte, en la búsqueda de nuevos artistas o viendo documentales, comparte con sus amigos, toca guitarra y cocina. Ella aconseja a otros jóvenes interesados ??en el arte mantener una fuerte dedicación, descubrir lo que realmente son como artistas, y buscar la excelencia académica, pues obtener buenas calificaciones hará que “el camino a la universidad sea mucho más fácil.”
Ciertamente Anais tendrá éxito en sus esfuerzos y lo más importante será feliz con lo que haga, como ella concluye: “Por encima de todo y sin hablar de alcanzar el éxito o no, me imagino a mí misma realizando arte y siendo feliz con lo que sea capaz de crear”.
