Since May, the baseball fields at Doral Meadow Park were packed with Doral Little League players who had one goal in mind, winning a Little League Championship. The postseason has proven to be one of success for the Doral Little League Majors and Juniors All-Star teams. The Doral Little League Majors team consists of players between the ages of 11-12 and the Juniors team consist of players between the ages of 13-14. On Saturday, July 14 both teams advanced to the Section 8 Tournament by winning the Florida District 8 Championship in their respective divisions. District 8 covers all of Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties.

Doral’s Little League Juniors team advanced in District tournament play unscathed going 4-0 in pool play.  This led to a championship game match up between Doral and Homestead, the number 2 seed.  The game went 7 complete innings with Doral winning 16-5. Palmer Phillips threw a complete game leading Doral to victory over Homestead.  Mauricio Gotera and Edgar Pages hit home runs to fuel the offense. This is the third District Title for the Doral Little League Juniors All-Star Team.

The Doral Little League Majors team fought their way through a very competitive southern half of the district and came out as the number 2 seed from the south.  They beat North Miami Beach in the semi-final game which led to a rematch with Kendall in the finals.  Kendall had previously given Doral their only tournament loss.  The result would be different in the finals. Doral Little League Majors defeated Kendall 9-5 to bring home its first championship in this age division. Andres Prieto pitched 5 innings for Doral and was credited with the win.  The game was decided by power hitting, with 13 of the 14 total runs being scored off of home runs.  Roberto Pena, Juan Carlos Mendez, and Stephano Major homered for Doral to drive the high-powered offense over the top.

Both teams will continue their post season play with the Juniors All-Star team opening their sectional tournament on Friday, July 20 at 7:00pm at Doral Meadow Park.  The Majors All-Star team will open their sectional tournament on Saturday, July 21 at 10:00am at Sabal Pines Park in Coconut Creek.
