Henrique Capriles Radonsky received the key to the City of Doral, Fla.

Henrique Capriles Radonsky deserved to receive the key to the city with the highest number of Venezuelan residents abroad more than anybody. A man who toured every single town and village of Venezuela twice to restore the confidence of the people and to instill hope on new ways to walk the road towards progress and wellbeing. A man of faith and hard work, which inspired more than 6,000 Venezuelans to travel 1,600 miles twice to vote for him in an election. On Sunday September 15, Capriles was presented with the key to the City of Doral, Florida by Mayor Luigi Boria, the first Venezuelan to hold public office in the U.S.
Invited by the Miami-Dade College to give a lecture on “The struggle for democracy in Venezuela”, Capriles spoke to an auditorium packed with more than 4,000 Venezuelans who flocked to listen to his message.
“What I ask from you is support and trust”. “Venezuela is a collective project”. “Devote all your energy to get organized”. Those were some of the strong phrases Capriles spoke to his audience, in addition to manifest his heartfelt appreciation for their effort to show their support for him in the presidential elections. He also expressed his fervent wish that very soon conditions in Venezuela are favorable enough to encourage the return of all Venezuelans living abroad.
Mayor Luigi Boria said Capriles’ speech impressed him very well: “He is a very bright person, very responsible and focused on avoiding taking any action on the spur of the moment. It was a great opportunity to share a moment with him and present him the key to the City of Doral. It would have been ideal that he visited our city. I commend the organizers of the event, it went very well; security was very good. It shows the passion for freedom and democracy in Venezuela from all those involved in the organization, especially the volunteers.”
One of the main points of Capriles’ speech was urging Venezuelans to work together for a united country. On that regard Mayor Boria said “it is important that those coordinating efforts, like the ‘Movimiento por la Unidad Democratica” (Movement for Democratic Unity), demonstrate true commitment for joining forces and organizing efforts. It is essential for success.”
“The point that needs to be clear is that as times passes we lose perspective of Venezuelan situation, even if we still stay in touch” said Boria. “There is a need for a grassroots transformation in Venezuela to restore safety, growth, development and well-being for the population. That is what would prompt a return migration of Venezuelans. However, those that have been born abroad will find it difficult to get used to live in a country they do not know. Venezuela would need at least 2 generations to restore and recover from all that has been lost these past 14 years”.
Nonetheless, Capriles’ message, which advocates for unity, work and hope left the Venezuelan diaspora in Miami with the certainty that only organized civic participation will be the instrument to change the direction of their home country. “Venezuela will always be home. We will do everything for you to come back.” The message was made clear. The final step is to take action.

El hombre que ha caminado Venezuela entera 2 veces para ganar la confianza del pueblo y sembrar la esperanza de un mejor camino para su patria merecía tener la llave de la ciudad con mayor número de habitantes venezolanos en el exterior.
En el marco de su visita, invitado por el Miami-Dade College, para dictar una conferencia sobre “La lucha por la democracia”, el líder opositor venezolano Henrique Capriles Radonsky recibió como reconocimiento la llave de la Ciudad de Doral, de manos del Alcalde Luigi Boria, primer venezolano en ocupar un cargo de elección popular en los EEUU.
“Lo que me nace pedirles es apoyo y confianza”. “Venezuela es un proyecto colectivo”. “Dediquen la energía a organizarse” fueron algunos de los mensajes que Capriles dejó a los aproximadamente 4,000 venezolanos que se congregaron para su conferencia, aparte de agradecerles de corazón su esfuerzo para apoyarlo en los pasados procesos electorales. Reflexionó sobre la cantidad de talento que se ha ido de Venezuela y manifestó su ferviente deseo de que las condiciones del país estén algún día dadas para que todos puedan regresar.
A su salida del evento el Alcalde Boria comentó sus impresiones sobre el discurso de Capriles: “Me pareció muy responsable y enfocado a no hacer las cosas por impulso. Fue muy grato poder compartir con él, es una persona brillante e inteligente. Habría sido ideal que también hubiera venido a Doral. Quiero felicitar a los organizadores del evento, porque quedo muy bien, la seguridad estuvo muy buena. Creo que fue el deseo de todos los voluntarios, lo que realmente demuestra que hay pasión por la libertad y la democracia de Venezuela”.
En su discurso Capriles exhortó al trabajo para lograr un país unido. Y alineado a esto el Alcalde Boria expresó que “es importantísimo que la gente que está aquí dirigiendo, sobre todo el Movimiento Unidad Democrática, demuestren unidad y organización. Yo creo que es fundamental.”
“El punto que hay que tener claro es que a medida que va pasando el tiempo vamos perdiendo la perspectiva de Venezuela aunque nos mantengamos en contacto”, comentó Boria. “Tiene que haber una transformación de raíz en Venezuela, donde haya crecimiento, desarrollo y bienestar para que haya una verdadera migración de retorno de los venezolanos se han ido a hacer vida en el exterior. La primera generación, nosotros, no tendríamos problema, porque amamos a Venezuela. Pero para quienes nacieron aquí es muy difícil porque no la conocen. Venezuela necesitará al menos 2 generaciones para restituir lo que se ha perdido en estos últimos 14 años”.
Aun así, el mensaje de unidad, trabajo y esperanza de Capriles y su contundente frase “Venezuela siempre será su país. Haremos todo para traerlos de vuelta”, queda para la diáspora venezolana en Miami como certeza de que una infatigable participación cívica organizada es el instrumento necesario para lograr el cambio de rumbo que el país necesita. El mensaje está claro. Solo falta la acción.
