Are you trying to start a business in Doral and you do not know where to start?
The Doral Chamber of Commerce and the Economic Development Department of the City of Doral are conducting several programs with the objective to support and incentivize the economic growth of the new and existing businesses in our city.
One of these programs is “Startup Doral”, this consists on several workshops that are offered for free through an association between the Doral Chamber of Commerce (DCC), the City of Doral and some other companies within the city, to advise the participants in the correct way to start and keep a commercial business in the community.
Manny Sarmiento, President of the Doral Chamber of Commerce explained that these workshops started in April of 2015, but they are still an excellent option as an answer to the questions of a lot of people interested in opening a business in Doral. “For example, we had an influx of entrepreneurs from other countries with the capital to invest in our city, but without the knowledge of how the system works in the United States.”
“Through the program “Startup Doral”, which is completely free, we have not only achieved to advise these entrepreneurs, but also all the business community in Doral, because we have been able to transmit information on permits, regulations, licenses, certificates of use, parking spots required and signaling laws and regulations, among other subjects needed to start a business successfully,” indicates Manny Sarmiento.
Since the program started until August of 2017, the number of participants in “Startup Doral” has been growing. In 2015 we had 332 registrants, in 2016 we had a total of 435 and as of today in 2017 we have already served 409 people, for a grand total of 1,176 business people that have attended these workshops.
Sarmiento commented that these workshops take place on the first Thursday of each month (with the exception of the month of July due to the Summer vacations) in the morning at the City of Doral Government Center. “We generally divide the workshop in two parts. In the first one, personnel from the City of Doral explain themes such as zoning and regulations, for example.”
In the second part, a business that is member of the Doral Chamber of Commerce presents subjects that are of general interest for all the business community. “This is a very productive program, because it not only allows us to be informed and share knowledge but it also helps us establish relationships that allow us to grow as businesses and to contribute to the economic development of the city.”
The Doral Chamber of Commerce is a non-for-profit organization that serves the business community since 2008. It has 237 business members, its mission is to help businesses in the area in the creation of new sources of income and to stimulate the financial growth of the City of Doral. On its side, the City of Doral Economic Development Director, Manuel Pila stated that the objective of “Startup Doral” is to establish a monthly platform to offer vital information to the business community about how to start and keep a business in Doral.
“Every month, we introduce the Directors of the main departments that have something to do in the process of opening a new company in the city, to the new businesses and we help them in understanding the process, while the Doral Chamber of Commerce offers information about the different sides of the business, including promotions, financing and technology,” explained Pila.
He also stated that while “Startup Doral” is an efficient way to contact people that are willing to start a business in Doral, the City of Doral also has other resources to help, advise and guide the business people and merchants. “We are constantly doing informational presentations and events that have as a mission to help those that are willing to start a business in Doral.”
“We work directly with big and small companies to educate them in the resources that the City of Doral offers to stimulate the economic growth. We also have joint events and programs with organizations such as Biznovators, a group of companies with more than 25 years in operation and the Small Business Administration (SBA) that was created in 1953 as an agency independent from the Federal Government, to help, advise, help and protect the interests of the small businesses.”
Manuel Pila reminded us that the mission of the Economic Development Department of the City of Doral is to help in the creation of businesses, establish relationships with business organizations and incentivize the development of businesses in the city, for this reason he invites all those that are interested in starting a business to visit the City of Doral to get the necessary advice and save time and money.

La Cámara de Comercio de Doral y la División de Desarrollo Económico de la Ciudad de Doral desarrollan varios programas con objetivo de apoyar e incentivar el crecimiento económico de los comercios nuevos y existentes en nuestra ciudad.
Uno de estos programas es “Startup Doral” que consiste en diversos talleres que son ofrecidos de forma gratuita a través de una asociación entre Cámara de Comercio de Doral (Doral Chamber of Commerce , DCC por sus siglas en inglés), la Ciudad de Doral y empresas de la ciudad para orientar a los participantes en la forma correcta de iniciar y mantener un espacio comercial en la comunidad de la ciudad.
Manny Sarmiento, presidente de la Cámara de Comercio de Doral explicó que estos talleres, aunque se iniciaron en abril del 2015, sigue siendo actualmente una excelente opción como una respuesta a las inquietudes de la gran cantidad de personas interesadas en abrir un negocio en Doral. “Por ejemplo, empezaron a llegar muchos empresarios de otros países con capital para invertir en nuestra ciudad, pero desconociendo cómo funciona el sistema en Estados Unidos”.
“A través del programa “Startup Doral”, el cual es completamente gratuito, no sólo se ha logrado orientar a estos comerciantes, sino también a toda la comunidad empresarial de Doral, pues le hemos transmitido información sobre permisologías, regulaciones, licencias, certificados de uso, estacionamientos requeridos y leyes de señalización, entre otros tópicos de necesarios para empezar un negocio con éxito”, señala Manny Sarmiento.
Desde que se inició el programa hasta agosto del 2017, los participantes en “Startup Doral” han ido en aumento. En el 2015 se registraron 332 personas, en el 2016 un total de 435 y en lo que ha transcurrido del año 2017, ya han acudido al taller 409, para un total 1,176 comerciantes que han formado parte de estas charlas.
Sarmiento comentó que estas charlas se realizan el primer jueves de cada mes (con la exepción del mes de julio por la temprada vacacional) durante horas en la mañana en las instalaciones del Ayuntamiento de la Ciudad de Doral. “Generalmente, dividimos la charla en dos partes, en la primera funcionarios de la Ciudad de Doral hacen su exposición sobre temas como zonificación y reglamentos, por ejemplo”.
En la segunda parte, algún negocio miembro de la Cámara de Comercio de Doral realiza una presentación sobre temas de interés para toda la comunidad empresarial. “Es un programa muy productivo que no sólo nos permite informarnos y compatir conocimientos, si no también establecer relaciones que nos permitan desarrollarnos como comerciantes y así contribuir al desarrollo económico de la ciudad”.
La Cámara de Comercio de Doral es una organización sin fines de lucro que sirve a la comunidad empresarial desde el 2008. Por su parte, el director de Desarrollo Económico de la Ciudad de Doral, Manuel Pila, manifestó que el objetivo de “Startup Doral” es mantener una plataforma mensual para ofrecerle información vital a la comunidad empresarial sobre cómo empezar y mantener un negocio en la localidad doralina.
“Cada mes, les introducimos a las nuevas empresas todos los directores de los departamentos claves en el proceso de abrir una nueva compañía en la ciudad y los ayudamos a entender el proceso, mientras que los representantes de la Cámara de Comercio ofrecen información sobre diferentes aspectos de negocio, incluyendo promociones, financiamiento y tecnología”, expresó Pila.
También comentó que si bien “StartUp Doral” es una manera eficiente para hacer contacto con personas que desean empezar un negocio en la ciudad, la Ciudad de Doral también cuenta con otros recursos para asistir, asesorar y orientar a los empresarios y comerciantes. “Constantemente, estamos haciendo presentaciones informativas y eventos que tienen como misión ayudar a quienes se inician en el mundo de los negocios en Doral”.
“Trabajamos directamente con compañías grandes y pequeñas para educarlas sobre los recursos con que cuenta la Ciudad de Doral para estimular el crecimiento económico. Igualmente, tenemos eventos y programas conjuntos con organizaciones como Biznovators, agrupación de empresas con más de 25 en funcionamiento y la Administración de Pequeños Negocios de los Estados Unidos (SBA, por sus siglas en inglés) que fue creada en 1953 como una agencia independiente del gobierno federal para ayudar, asesorar, ayudar y proteger los intereses de las pequeñas empresas”.
Manuel Pila recordó que la misión de la División de Desarrollo Económico es facilitar la creación de empresas, establecer relaciones con organizaciones empresariales e incentivar el desarrollo de negocios en la ciudad, por lo que le hace un llamado a quienes van a empezar un negocio a que se acerquen a la Ciudad de Doral para recibir la orientación necesaria y así evitarse pérdidas de tiempo y dinero.
