img1Doral, FL – Mayor Luigi Boria and the Doral City Council approved the new conceptual design for the NW 114th Avenue Park, at its April 28th Special Council Meeting. The NW 114th Avenue Park has been designed as an intergenerational recreational space in which the community can gather to enjoy sports, cultural arts, and nature in a safe environment that is representative of the beautiful City of Doral. The park will encompass 18 acres of land and will be the City’s seventh park development.

Amenities at the NW 114th Avenue Park will include: a splash pad, outdoor movie wall, open green space, walking and running paths, a football/soccer field, youth/adult softball field, tennis courts, full-sized outdoor basketball courts, sand volleyball courts, children’s playground, shaded pavilions, and approximately 340 parking spaces. The community center will be the City’s largest with 35,000 square feet, an indoor basketball gymnasium and exercise track, community/cultural room with seating capacity for up to 200 people, a room designed especially for our extremely active senior residents, arts and craft room, recreational room, aerobics/dance room, multi-purpose room, and a conference room.

Wannemacher Jensen Architects, Inc., which was also approved at the Special Council Meeting for engineering services and related disciplines, will work with the City to achieve cost savings with more recreational amenities, both active and passive. “The Parks and Recreation Department is committed to making sure this project is completed in a timely manner and we look forward to yet another successful parks project,” said Parks and Recreation Director, Barbara Hernandez.

The highly anticipated park, which promises to alleviate congestion at Doral Meadow Park and Morgan Levy Park, is expected to break ground sometime in December 2014. “The City of Doral’s parks program has been highlighted as one of the best programmed recreational services in the state of Florida.  The addition of the NW 114th Avenue Park will provide our families and friends with yet another tranquil yet active space in which to enrich the quality of life for all of our residents.  The Council is extremely supportive and proud of this project,” said Mayor Luigi Boria.
