The Latino Voter in Florida is a growing force for change in Florida and in America. Florida has the third largest population of Latino voters in America. Almost 1.5 million Hispanic voters consist of 13.2% of Florida’s 11 million voters. Hispanic eligible voters in Florida have a different Hispanic origin profile from Hispanic eligible voters nationwide. One-third (32%) of Hispanic eligible voters in Florida are of Cuban origin, 28% are of Puerto Rican origin and 9% are of Mexican origin. By contrast, among Hispanic eligible voters nationwide, 59% are Mexican, 14% are Puerto Rican and 5% are Cuban. Wherever you are from – now you are a Floridian! It is critical that your voice be part of this historic power. From education to healthcare, immigration issues to new business opportunities, your vote will determine the quality of your life, and your children’s opportunities.

Recently the court in Florida gave a victory to Florida voters when they overturned the Florida legislature’s efforts to make it harder to register new voters by third party groups like the League of Women Voters, La Raza and many other groups. These groups historically reach out to under served groups, or those with more difficulty getting transportation to state voter registration offices. The impact has been measurable. The New York Times showed Florida was 81,000 new voter registrations behind. Our volunteers are back at work now, but very honestly, we can’t do it all. We need you to step forward.
Are you registered? Are your children (age 18 and up can vote) registered. Are your grandchildren who are 18 registered? It takes just a moment to either register or update your registration. By law, you must be registered 29 days before the November 6 General Election. That deadline date is Tuesday, October 9. You still have time to register and update your voter record. Don’t delay. You can pick up voter registration forms at your local public library or download and print at our League website:
www.VamosAVotar.org. Also, make sure your name is correct and address is current. Often Latino voters’ last names can be improperly shown on records, so take a moment now, one minute on the phone and you can have this in order by talking to your local Supervisor of Elections office. Have you recently moved to Florida from another state? Then you need to register in Florida! How about your relatives or friends?

Los votantes latinos en la Florida representan una fuerza en crecimiento que hay que tener en cuenta en la Florida y en América. La Florida tiene la tercera mayor población de votantes Latinos en América. Somos casi 1.5 millones. Votantes Hispanos conforman el 13.2% de los votantes de los 11 millones de la Florida.
